Every day we see short clips of people carelessly throwing trash on streets, parks, or rivers. Those videos spread fast — but virality alone doesn’t fix the problem. What actually makes a difference is turning that moment of exposure into real action. That’s why we launched the Cleanup, Not Cancel Volunteer Challenge: a community-driven way to hold people accountable, clean up our neighbourhoods, and turn shame into a positive change.
What this is about
If you spot a video showing someone littering or dumping filth, don’t just share it for likes. Send it to us. We’ll help make sure the person in the clip learns the impact of their action — and we’ll invite them to join a community clean-up day. Here’s the promise: we will remove the viral video from our channels once the person shown agrees to volunteer for one full day of clean-up with our team.
This isn’t about public shaming. It’s about accountability, education, and repair. We believe people can change when they see the consequences of their actions and are given a chance to make amends.
How it works — simple and fair
-
You share the video with us. Use our secure submission form or send a direct message (details below). Include the platform link, time, and any contextual info.
-
We verify the clip. Our team checks the video to confirm it shows littering or illegal dumping and that it’s recent and genuine.
-
We contact the person privately. We never dox, threaten, or publicly humiliate anyone. We reach out respectfully, explain the harm, and invite them to participate in a volunteer clean-up day.
-
They volunteer with us. The person spends one full day cleaning the affected area alongside our volunteers, learning about waste disposal, and helping restore the space.
-
We remove the video. After the volunteer day, and upon verification of participation, the video is removed from our channels and we mark the case as closed — accountability completed.
Why this approach works
-
Restorative, not destructive. Public shaming often leads to defensiveness and hostility. Inviting repair encourages empathy and long-term behaviour change.
-
Visible impact. One cleaned riverbank or roadside is better than a thousand angry comments.
-
Education in action. Our volunteers and participants learn practical waste-management tips they can carry forward.
-
Community building. Cleanup days bring neighbours together and turn a negative moment into community pride.
How you can help right now
-
Share videos with us (link/email/DM):
-
Volunteer on clean-up days. Sign up for upcoming events and bring friends.
-
Spread the message. Use the hashtag #CleanupNotCancel and encourage others to forward videos to us rather than amplifying them.
-
Sponsor supplies. We welcome donations of gloves, trash bags, tools, and refreshments for volunteers.
Safety, privacy and respect
We handle submissions carefully. We won’t publish personal contact details, and we don’t support harassment or vigilantism. Our goal is to resolve incidents responsibly — by educating and restoring rather than escalating conflict.
Example message you can send with a video
“Hi — I saw a clip of someone littering at [place/time]. I’m sharing it with the Cleanup, Not Cancel team so they can reach out and arrange a volunteer clean-up. I believe in accountability that fixes the problem.”
Ready to make a difference?
Virality is powerful — let’s use that attention to fix what’s broken instead of just watching it. Send the clip, join a clean-up, and help turn one careless moment into a cleaner future for everyone.
Join the movement. Clean up, don’t cancel.
